Devoke Water is a Tarn (mountain lake). It is a hidden gem.
It is the largest tarn in the Lake District National Park. It lies on Birker Fell, 1 km to the west of the road between Ulpha and Eskdale, at an altitude of 770 feet (223 m).
It has a depth of 46 ft (14 m). It can be reached via a bridle track. There is an interesting two-storey stone boathouse and ruined stable at the tarn. The boat house and pier, like the island are unique features.
The Tarn is owned by Millom Anglers and is perfect for the fly fisherman. The body of water contains Brown Trout and Perch.
- Camping is not allowed on the shores of Devoke water.
